For queen and britain. Mit jeder Unverschämtheit wird deren Chance auf irgendeinen deal doch schmaler. Diese Dreistigkeit der Regierung und die unfähigkeit ihre Fehler einzugestehen machen das ja erst so schlimm.

| | This is probably May testing the water for a backlash. Suggest this could be possible, see how the papers respond and then plan from that for the actual negotiations when the first round of items are dealt with.
She’s trying to sell to the hardliners that this is something they need to quietly compromise on to get this done.

c. Third, to ensure that goods in circulation continue to comply with product legislation, and market surveillance authorities can ensure the necessary action is taken with respect to non-compliant products, the agreement should facilitate the continued oversight of goods.
d. Fourth, where goods are supplied with services, there should be no restriction to the provision of these services that could undermine the agreement on goods. | |
Confidentiality and access to documents

London will Europäischen Gerichtshof weiter respektieren
| | Urteile des Europäischen Gerichtshofs (EuGH) können auch nach dem Brexit als Richtschnur für juristische Auseinandersetzungen in Großbritannien herangezogen werden. Das geht aus einem nun veröffentlichten Positionspapier der britischen Regierung hervor.
Die Pläne deuten darauf hin, dass die britische Regierung in der Frage der künftigen Rolle des EuGH von ihrer harten Haltung abrückt. Zwar ist demnach weiterhin geplant, dass die direkte Rechtsprechung des EuGH nach dem Austritt aus der Europäischen Union nicht mehr in Großbritannien gilt. Doch so würde das Gericht künftig zumindest indirekt eine Rolle spielen. | |

| | [r/uk:] The EU insists that the so-called "bill" is really only tallying up what obligations the UK has already entered or will still be entering before it actually leaves the EU. As such, it cannot be something the UK will receive anything for in return. As such, it is not at all something that should be conflated with future deals.
The UK on the other hand seems to see it as a fine for leaving and the price the EU wants to put on future deals.
These two positions are fundamentally incompatible. Both sides should settle this. They should have settled this a long time ago. When on day 1 of the negotiations Davis agreed on the roadmap of the negotiations, it seemed as if the UK had accepted the EUs position on the "exit bill" for what it is. When the UK agreed that it would owe some money for some obligations without going into detail, it seemed that way as well. But now, we're back at square one.
And by the way, deceiving the British public about the nature of the EUs financial demands (arguably a joint effort by the conservative press and the Brexiteers) does not help in making any deal more likely as it undermines the possibility of any financial deal being received positively in the UK. If there are now pollsters asking how much the British would see as a fair amount to pay, that's not helpful. The discussion should be about what the UK can agree to pay for. For example, will the UK cover the pensions for its share of EU employees, many of whom worked for the people of the UK as well for the past four decades? Yes? Then we have a number we can pin on that; but the first question is not the number but what it stands for. It is costs like these that the EU doesn't want to be stiffed for but it doesn't seem like that explanation is given to the British public by the British (conservative) press or government. Instead, it's portrayed as a price-tag or fine for leaving, maybe as the cost of a trade agreement. Which is just plain wrong and poisoning the public debate. In the long run, this will only lead to bad blood between the British and the rest of the EU. >

Ein richtiger Deal ist zeitlich wohl kaum noch zu schaffen, und je länger die Beteiligten noch herumsitzen, desto wahrscheinlicher wird 2019 wohl erst einmal ein Soft-Brexit-Übergangsdeal á la "alles bleibt wie bisher, aber das UK hält in EU-Fragen zukünftig die Klappe".
Die Alternative wäre der "Hard Brexit"-Crash, aber den will eigentlich keine Seite.

Die großartigen Trade-Deals des UKs mit dem Rest der Welt zeichnen sich auch noch nicht so ab. Momentan besucht May dafür Japan, doch ein schneller Erfolg in dieser Richtung ist unwahrscheinlich.
