AMA mit einem Schüler, der das School Shooting in Florida überlebt hat.
Er beantwortet die Fragen sehr nüchtern, abgeklärt und umfassend.
| From reading some of your comments, you seemed to be so poised and collected in the situation. Would you consider yourself to have always been that way, or do you think the situation brought something new out of you? Glad you're okay! | |
| I always thought about situations like this and how I would act. I always thought that I would freak out, but surprisingly, I was very calm but shaken while it was going on. I tried my absolute hardest to make sure everyone surrounding me was ok and made sure they stayed quiet so we could have a better chance of surviving, and made sure the girl next to me (Kelly) was saying the right things to 911 as she was talking to an operator.
She was crying HYSTERICALLY and couldn't even get words out of her mouth so I was calming her down and telling her what to tell the operator because her thought process must have been in thousands of pieces just by the look of her face. | |

Die Psychologie hat ein Problem mit Replizierbarkeit und Pseudowissenschaft. Kapitel 8573.
Mindless eating: is there something rotten behind the research?
| ost people probably haven’t heard of the beleaguered marketing professor, Brian Wansink, but chances are many will know about his work. Wansink is the mind behind the concept of “mindless eating” – the idea that the unconscious decisions we make about food can have profound effects on our diet and weight. Ideas like using smaller plates to eat fewer calories are pretty much engrained in our collective common sense, and stem from Wansink’s work over the past 20 years at the University of Illinois and now at Cornell University’s “Food and Brand Lab”. But for over a year, the veracity of Wansink’s research has been increasingly called into question, with five papers retracted (one of which was retracted twice), fourteen corrected, and over fifty others facing scrutiny. | |
Diese Forschung wurde auch häufig zur Begründung irgendwelcher "Verbraucherschutz"-Regeln herangezogen.

Zeitgeschichte ist häufig schwer von Verschwörungstheorien zu unterscheiden. Kapitel 121.
Was there ever really a “sugar conspiracy”?
| Over the past quarter-century, historical research has revealed how major industries from tobacco to lead to petroleum have meddled in science to conceal the hazards of their products. Drawing on secret industry documents, these studies have shown how special interests have used financial incentives to influence scientists, fabricate doubt, and delay regulation (1). Recently, similar allegations have been made against the sugar industry, with claims that prominent industry-backed researchers in the 1960s downplayed or suppressed evidence linking sugar and heart disease. Building on a newly popular narrative holding that the low-fat campaign of the 1980s was not based on solid science, these allegations have suggested that if not for the machinations of the sugar industry and its cadre of sponsored researchers, the history of U.S. dietary policy might have unfolded very differently. In this article, we argue that the historical evidence does not support these claims. Although we do not defend the sugar industry and cannot address every aspect of this history, we believe recent high-profile claims come from researchers who have overextended the analogy of the tobacco industry playbook and failed to assess historical actors by the norms and standards of their time. | |

Ein paar Bilder vom Mars-Rover
Find das immer so surreal. Könnte ne Wüste auf der Erde sein. Ist aber n anderer Planet.
Erklärung dazu:
| Wannabe geologist here, I'll explain what you're seeing:
Picture One shows layers of mudstone stacked up ontop of each other, formed in an ancient lake 3.5 billion years ago
Picture Two shows the slopes of Mount Sharp. The nobbles were eroded by the wind over millions of years. At the foreground of the image are black sand ripples (the sand on Mars is very dark in colour).
Picture Three shows more mudstones. This terrain was very jaggedy and has cut holes in Curiosity's wheels.
Picture Four shows an ancient delta, where a river poured into a lake. You can see a belt of black sand dunes in the background.
Picture Five is crisscrossed with white minerals. These features formed when groundwater circulated through rock and deposited white minerals in the cracks. Later the rock was eroded away by wind and sand action; these minerals are more resistant to erosion and so stick up out the ground.
Picture Six is one of the most important photos ever taken in Mars exploration. This image was taken right next to Curiosity's landing site back in 2012. It shows rounded pebbles clearly transported and smoothed by water, and a rock type called conglomerate which is found in riverbeds on Earth. This was the first time a rover discovered what was once a fast flowing stream on Mars.

In Berlin fahren ab Frühjahr autonome Minibusse herum.

Behind the scenes einer Cutscene von Evil Within 2.
