Wallah, was soll ich machen, Bruder?
Was soll man sagen?

My new favorite thing - Bing's new ChatGPT bot argues with a user, gaslights them about the current year being 2022, says their phone might have a virus, and says "You have not been a good user"
Why? Because the person asked where Avatar 2 is showing nearby
Hindsight's a bitch, huh?

Interessanter Kommentar:
| The Bing Chatbot is a piece of software that uses its huge library of human-generated sentences and dialogues on the internet to predict how a (well informed) human being would respond to the prompts it is given. So it is a sophisticated kind of predictive text generator. As a result it mimics a human being very well, but it is not sentient and does not have emotions, desires, beliefs, purposes or intentions.
So the concern we should have is not that chatbots like this may acquire malign purposes. The concern is that those who develop them, especially in the course of a commercial race to make profits from them, may release versions of them that cause serious harm to people. They don't have to have malign purposes to do that, anymore than say a chainsaw has to.
The 2021 BBC Reith Lecturer Stuart Russell has drawn a parallel with the early days of electric appliances, where electrocutions and fires eventually drove developers to establish industry-wide safety standards:
https://downloads.bbc.co.uk/radio4/reith2021/BBC_Reith_Lectures_2021_4.pdf
The question is whether and how the developers of chatbots can establish equivalent standards now.
One mechanism would be for developers to lose serious money from a spate of lawsuits brought by people harmed by chatbots. This might concentrate minds. See this article:

| It's not just visual artists who are feeling the heat of AI's encroachment — now, professional voice actors are beginning to be affected, too.
Last week, Vice reported on a troubling trend that's gaining traction in the voice acting industry: actors being "asked" — sometimes not very honestly — to sign contracts that would allow their clients to synthesize their voices using AI, enabling them to wield an actor's voice for as long as they want, to say what they want, and often without any additional compensation.
Another distressing aspect of these contracts? The AI clauses in them tend to be deceptively embedded.
"The language can be confusing and ambiguous," Tim Friedlander, president of the National Association of Voice Actors, told Vice, describing the practice as "very prevalent."
"Many voice actors may have signed a contract without realizing language like this had been added ... Some actors are being told they cannot be hired without agreeing to these clauses," he noted.

| The award-winning Clarkesworld Magazine has helped launch the careers of science fiction writers for almost 20 years, regularly featuring work from Hugo Award nominees and winners like Elizabeth Bear, Peter Watts and Catherynne M. Valente. But right now, in quite the ironic situation, it finds itself battling against that most sci-fi of modern trends: AI.
According to a recent article by Clarkesworld’s editor, Neil Clarke, over a third of submissions that have come in to the magazine this year have been written by artificial intelligence, then submitted by cheating humans. And it’s getting worse, fast. In the first half of February, more than double the number of AI-written entries appeared than in all of January, and Clarke tells Kotaku there were 50 alone today.

Futurism: Economist Says AI Is a Doomed Bubble
| "The undeniable magic of the human-like conversations generated by GPT," write Gary N. Smith, the Fletcher Jones Professor of Economics at Pomona College, and Jeffrey Lee Funk, an independent technology consultant, "will undoubtedly enrich many who peddle the false narrative that computers are now smarter than us and can be trusted to make decisions for us."
"The AI bubble," they continue, "is inflating rapidly."
[...]
"Training it on larger databases will not solve the inherent problem: LLMs are unreliable because they do not know what words mean. Period," the experts argue.
"In fact,"' they add, "training on future databases that increasingly include the BS spouted by LLMs will make them even less trustworthy."
