| Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges against serial fabulist Rep. George Santos (R-NY), according to CNN.
Three sources familiar with the matter told the network that Santos is likely to appear in federal court in New York on Wednesday for charges that remained under seal on Tuesday.
The news appeared to catch Santos by surprise. “That’s news to me,” he said when reached by phone Tuesday evening by Associated Press reporter Farnoush Amiri. “You’re the first to call me about this.”
A spokesperson for Santos didn’t respond to questions after the story broke, and instead “abruptly departed his DC office with her backpack,” according to CNN’s Haley Talbot.
On Tuesday night, Santos was returning to New York after ditching House votes in D.C., a source told Talbot. He was earlier seen darting in and out of GOP House speaker Kevin McCarthy’s office.
While the specific charges weren’t immediately known, Santos has been under investigation by a slew of agencies, from local district attorney’s offices to the Department of Justice to the Federal Election Commission to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

| On this platform, unlike the one-way street of broadcast, people are able to interact, critique and refute whatever is said.
And, of course, anything misleading will get @CommunityNotes.
I also want to be clear that we have not signed a deal of any kind whatsoever. Tucker is subject to the same rules & rewards of all content creators.
Rewards means subscriptions and advertising revenue share (coming soon), which is a function of how many people subscribe and the advertising views associated with the content.
I hope that many others, particularly from the left, also choose to be content creators on this platform.
Kein Deal, aber die Produktionskostenhilfe ist doch deutlich besser als woanders.

Die Bekloppten machen mal wieder vermutlich illegale Dinge:
| Alt-right agitator Milo Yiannopoulos used the credit card for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) campaign last November to purchase an internet domain for Kanye West’s still unannounced 2024 presidential bid, and he was reimbursed for “domain transfer” by the West campaign the same day for $3,000 above cost, according to receipts obtained by The Daily Beast and a person with knowledge of the events.
The receipts match Federal Election Commission filings from both campaigns. Those filings show that on Nov. 22, the Greene campaign reported a $7,020.16 expense to the GoDaddy hosting service for “domain registration and hosting.” That same day, the Kanye 2020 committee reported paying Yiannopoulos $9,955 for “domain transfer.”
Legal experts told The Daily Beast that the transactions raise a number of questions, including about possible theft and conversion of campaign funds to personal use.
According to the receipts, GoDaddy billed Greene senior adviser Isaiah Wartman for a $7,020.16 purchase of the “ye24.com” domain on Nov. 22. The person with direct knowledge of the events said that Yiannopoulos oversaw the transaction with the Greene campaign card, but the person did not know whether the Greene campaign was aware at the time of the expense.
| Brendan Fischer, a campaign finance law specialist and deputy executive director at watchdog Document, told The Daily Beast that if the Greene campaign paid for Kanye’s web domain, “that’s an excessive and unreported in-kind contribution to his campaign.”
Fischer also noted that if Yiannopoulos charged the Greene campaign’s card without the campaign’s knowledge, “then he may have committed a range of serious violations—including, potentially, causing Greene’s campaign to file false reports with the government.”

| CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Representative George Santos, the Republican whose pivotal victory in New York was soon followed by revelations that he had falsified his biography on the campaign trail, surrendered to the authorities at federal court on Long Island on Wednesday morning.
Mr. Santos was charged with seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the House of Representatives.

| Immediate reaction from a CNN on-air personality to me just now on this Trump town hall: "It is so bad. I was cautiously optimistic despite the criticism. It is awful. It's a Trump infomercial. We're going to get crushed." | |
https://twitter.com/mehdirhasan/status/1656448485632221186
| Lots of pre-game talk on CNN about Trump's 'tone' and 'discipline'. Kill me now.
It's as if we have gone back in time to 2016.
As if the insurrection didn't happen.
As if the man wasn't found liable of sexual abuse just *this week*.

| This is gross. What an epic fail. I will never watch one single minute of CNN ever again. I guess he can just completely ignore every question and talk as long as he wants about anything he wants with no pushback. | |
https://twitter.com/TristanSnell/status/1656469368824291332
| I will not appear on CNN again until there is a total change of leadership and a reckoning for the travesty of this Trump “town hall.”
And I call on all other CNN contributors and commentators to do the same.

https://twitter.com/JYSexton/status/1656455597049380864
| Listen, if this town hall is any indication, and I think it is, the Trump Campaign of 2024 is going to be infinitely more disturbing and upsetting.
I've spent a lot of time studying this man and his movement. I'm stunned by the depths here. This is...awful.
https://twitter.com/djrothkopf/status/1656476896350068737
| Hard to say what was the worst part of the CNN debacle: Trump repeating the Big Lie, promising to pardon Jan 6 insurgents, further victimizing E. Jean Carroll, not promising to honor the 2024 election result, not calling Vladimir Putin a war criminal or condemning his invasion of Ukraine, implying that there was equivalency between Russia and Ukraine, attacking our allies yet again, promising to double down on many of his worst policies, taking credit for the abomination that was the Dobbs decision, the lies upon lies upon lies, the clear message he sent that if elected again would could face even worse than his disastrous, scandal-ridden, failed first term, his insults to Kaitlan Collins for doing her job, the way the audience was constituted, the fact that giving him this platform normalized him, allowed him to spread his disinformation & will help him raise $?
Each of those was terrible, each chilling in light of the past 7 years.
But no, worst of all was CNN's decision to air this in the first place. Disastrous.
| | | If I were E Jean Carroll's lawyer I would file new defamation charges tomorrow morning. And then seek summary judgement. | |
https://twitter.com/SykesCharlie/status/1656479167821611009
| This was not Kaitlin Collins’ fault. The format was impossible and CNN’s bosses should have known that.
Chris Licht is rapidly becoming the Elon Musk of CNN…
https://twitter.com/johncusack/status/1656482304234012673
| CNN anchors - now would be a great time to resign - do it together - don’t go on the air and pretend to report on this lie filled hate informercial You know why and what happened - Chris licht did it for the money for greed - you network set a torch to the country again - Just resign -!
