Schatz, Du hast Dich wieder verrannt.
Was is los mit Dir?

Was ein Spaß.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

Bezogen auf was?

| |
>
Juncker says EU won't reopen Brexit deal, Britain's May knows that >
| European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Wednesday he would tell British Prime Minister Theresa May when she travels to Brussels on Thursday that the EU’s stalled withdrawal agreement with Britain cannot be renegotiated. | |
The most important message from Donald Tusk isn’t about Brexiteers | What matters most is that most European politicians have given up on keeping the United Kingdom in the EU. >
| [Tusk:] “I have always been with you with all my heart, but the facts are unmistakable. At the moment the pro-Brexit stance of the UK prime minister and the leader of the opposition rules out this question. Today there is no political force and no effective leadership for remain.”
[...]
But the defeat of Yvette Cooper’s amendment to extend Article 50 has underlined that there is no majority to be found in the Commons for anything which even smells faintly of stopping Brexit. And there is an increasing awareness that Jeremy Corbyn has no desire to re-open the referendum question either.
That’s the important context to Tusk’s remarks and key to understanding the thinking of member states. For the most part, European politicians no longer see keeping the UK within the European Union as a possible – and in some cases even as a desirable – outcome of the Brexit talks.
The question of “how will these remarks play among Britain’s Leave voters?” no longer plays a role as far as EU diplomats are concerned, to the extent that it ever did. The priority is about reassuring existing member states and apportioning blame among the electorate of the EU – that is, the EU excluding the UK, which almost everyone now expects to leave.
EU prepares for looming no-deal Brexit — and ensuing blame game
| “My analysis is that we are really heading for the abyss,” said one senior EU figure handling Brexit. “We may extend to June. But it is coming. The risk of no-deal is huge.”
The drumbeat of planning helps those, like German chancellor Angela Merkel, who see the Brexit brinkmanship as potentially helping shift support in favour of a deal in Westminster.
But the EU is also adjusting its thinking and energy, with an emphasis on three priorities:
- making sure voters do not find their leaders at fault for the costs of a hard Brexit;
- mitigating the worst effects of such a crash-out, even if it temporarily bends some EU principles;
- and, finally, working out how to pick up the pieces afterwards.
“A three months extension is likely,” said Rem Korteweg, a research fellow at Clingendael, the Netherlands Institute of International Relations. “But it is not to give the UK a shot at another agreement. It is to give the EU more time to prepare itself for no-deal. They will not say this out loud, but this is the calculus.”
Brussels has long written off the possibility of convincing the British public. The focus of the EU27 is instead on winning the battle at home. The first challenge is ensuring Mrs May takes “ownership” of a deal, and that the public see it as being crafted around her red lines. For Brussels, with ownership also comes the responsibility for setting it right and securing ratification.
“I didn’t know… that he was in any sense a delicate flower.”

May set to delay second parliament vote on Brexit deal - report
| Prime Minister Theresa May is preparing to delay the second parliament vote on her Brexit deal until the end of February, the Telegraph newspaper reported late on Wednesday.
The prime minister’s chief enforcer, or whip, indicated at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday that the vote would not be held next week as expected because May will not have renegotiated her deal in time, the report said, without citing its sources.

| Do you know who will be blamed [for a no deal] though?
I'm guessing the EU. | | | They will blame anyone, or anything really.
It will be like how socialists say that Venezuela failed because it wasn't true socialism.
Or how communists say that the Soviet Union failed because it wasn't true communism.
Or how capitalists explain why there's poverty in the UK or USA because they don't have true, unfettered capitalism.
Brexiteers will spend the rest of history saying that true Brexit was never attempted. And they'll never have to pin down exactly what that was supposed to be, they can say whatever they like: 'Well, we never tried the EEA option/I always thought we should have gone with CETA/Canada+++ was always the sensible plan/We could have thrived under WTO rules/May should never have sent Olly Robbins/I wanted Gove as Brexit Minister...'
It will be incredibly frustrating but that's how Brexit has always been - 17,410,742 different dreams of what it would look like and never a consensus. However it ends up, any Brexit voter can say that they didn't get what they voted for and they will deflect any blame for the damage with an argument like the above. >
