Parasiten (Achtung, super ekelhaft)
Brackwespe infiziert Raupe

Dann:
| With its escape reflex disabled, the stung roach simply rests in the burrow as the wasp's egg hatches after about 3 days. The hatched larva lives and feeds for 4–5 days on the roach, then chews its way into its abdomen and proceeds to live as an endoparasitoid. Over a period of 8 days, the wasp larva consumes the roach's internal organs in an order which maximizes the likelihood that the roach will stay alive, at least until the larva enters the pupal stage and forms a cocoon inside the roach's body. | |

https://i.redd.it/7trj18yecdgz.gif
| I worked in a sawmill for a while, did a lot of jobs there from stacking lumber to grading it. I was able to talk to our saw operators and ask them about the different hairy situations they would find themselves in, so here's what they told me.
We cut hardwood from the Allegheny forest, and a lot of the trees we would get came from areas where it wasn't terribly unlikely to find metal in the lumber. Most of the time it ended up being old fencing, barbed wire or old electric fence wire. Our bandsaws could eat through that without much problem, but they did constantly need sharpening or reconditioning. Bullets weren't an issue at all, we'd constantly see them in our wood, copper and lead just weren't hard enough to pose any real issue. If they had been, we'd have been down for replacing blades more than we were up and running. Nails didn't pose much of a problem either.
The real problem pieces were as follows:
Ceramic insulators: If someone nailed an insulator to a tree for electric fencing it was possible for the nail to rust away and leave the ceramic embedded in the tree as it grew.
Lengths of pipe/rod: Lots of old oil fields in that area, and trees would just grow around abandoned runs of pipe or the reciprocating rods that powered the pumps. The metal outside the tree would rust away, but the rest seemed to be relatively protected inside, leaving no hints that a pipe or rod was ever in the area until you cut into it.
Railroad spikes: Some people didn't care for the work that we did and wanted to "save the trees", so when they would notice that a tract of forest was being prepared for harvesting they'd bring out their sledge hammers and some railroad spikes or other hard metal and drive them into the tree before we cut it, with the goal of ruining our saw blades.
We had metal detectors to help us avoid the largest and most intact metal objects, but they didn't work perfectly at the best of times, and they didn't pick up ceramics. Some of the logs were just plainly too big to fit through the detector, so they just had to cut them and hope it was alright.
When we had a saw blade get destroyed it was every man for himself. The saw operator had a pretty secure booth, but there were other workers in the area doing housekeeping and/or discarding the worst cuts of wood who had to duck and cover as best they could. Not that it would do much good, any broken tip or shattered pieces of band that came off were flying too fast for you to react to anyways. Just had to rely on the protective gear you were wearing when it happened.
As fun aside, imagine how fun it was when rather than a nail, the thing the blades cut into was a yellow jacket nest. Nothing makes a day at work more interesting than a few hundred angry hornets being loosed into the building. | |
