Aus der Quelle: Russian channels are proudly showing off the scale of new defensives lines that have been prepared by Wagner in occupied Donbas.
They don't seem to have noticed it appears to be to defending mostly pre Feb 24th positions.
Would seem they don't expect to hold Northern Luhansk.

| The US says it agrees with Western allies that Iran's supply of explosive drones to Russia violates UN sanctions.
Kyiv was struck by so-called "kamikaze" drones on Monday, unleashed by Russia but believed to be Iranian-made.
The US agrees with the French and British assessment that the drones violate UN Security Council Resolution 2231, the US State Department said.
That resolution, linked to Iran's nuclear accord, bars Iranian transfers of certain military technologies.

| Ok, let's talk about lend-lease. I see that this issue still causes confusion and various speculations, so I will try to put everything on the shelves. Thread 🧵
Despite reports, the lend-lease did not take effect on October 1 with the onset of the new fiscal year in the United States. The law came into force on May 9 after being signed by Joe Biden, and under this law, deliveries could have been made earlier. Then why weren't they?
Lend-lease is just one of the programs under which Ukraine can receive American weapons - but on lease or loan. In other words, the provided weapons will then have to be either paid for or returned.
Instead, under other programs, weapons for the Armed Forces are provided free of charge and for unlimited use. Once received, it becomes the property of Ukraine. And as long as Congress allocates money for these programs, the United States will use them.
Previously, it was unknown whether Congress would approve new funding for Kyiv for the next fiscal year. This is where the media came up with the date of October 1 - the "beginning" of the land lease was automatically tied to it. But on September 30, Congress approved an additional 12 billion for Ukraine - part of which will go to military support. Therefore, all upcoming arms packages will continue to be delivered by the US under other programs "as a gift". The use of the Lend-Lease is postponed - but this does not mean bad news.
Many people are waiting for the Lend-Lease because of the perception that this program will bring arms supplies from the United States to a whole new level. That there will be much more weapons, and they will be much better - tanks, aircraft, artillery, MLRS, to emphasize the necessary. But this is not true - the lend-lease will not unlock opportunities that are not available now. The provision of this or that weapon depends not on the program, but on the political decision in the United States. Programs are about the delivery mechanism, not about the content. Then what is the purpose of the lend-lease?
Lend-lease is a plan B in case Congress does not approve new funding for Kyiv. Joe Biden promises to support Ukraine for as long as it takes - and that's where the lend loan trump card can come in handy. To provide weapons under this program, the White House will not have to ask Congress for money again and wait for it to be approved. This is a simplified and accelerated procedure. And what exactly to provide will be decided by the US administration.
I don't know when the lend loan will start, it depends on the composition of the Congress after the elections in November, and whether they will support new funding for Ukraine. But with this program, the U.S. has the opportunity to continuously support Ukraine for the long term, as long as it takes.

| Gas- and electricity prices are dropping FAST in Europe right now and they are likely going to drop further!
What is going on? 💲🪔A thread
Nat Gas prices have dropped from >300 EURs pr MWh to levels just north of 50 EURs and day ahead prices are even lower in many areas of Europe
Prices in Spain have dropped as low as 27 EURs pr MWh for Gas as there is currently a queue of ships waiting to off-load outside of Spanish LNG ports
This has led LNG within day prices to trade sub 25 (below the PVB price) as LNG operators are trying to get more room for the LNG waiting off-shore
...
Fill levels in European gas storages are approaching 100% way ahead of the deadline 1st of November and paired with milder than usual weather, this leads to a very low net spot demand for Gas
Germany is for example still running large daily net injections into storage through mid-October as
1) The flow is decent
2) The temperatures are mild and
3) The nat gas consumption among households and the industry is DOWN relative to 2021
There is hence very limited scarcity risks for October/November and the arrow points clearly DOWN for prices as a consequence. LNG ships are queing up and there is nowhere to place it..
This is likely going to bring the entire nat gas- and electricity curve DOWN in coming weeks at the very least until the heating season really kicks in through November..
The armageddon scenario is for now NOT worth talking about..
BUT the 2023 supply is much less certain! LNG makes up 40% of the current supply of gas in Europe, but we are still running 20-25% below usual flow levels due to the lack of Russian gas
The winter just ahead of us seems to be save, but in 23 we may be in for renewed turbulence

ISW: Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, October 19
| Russian authorities are likely setting information conditions to justify planned Russian retreats and significant territorial losses in Kherson Oblast.
...
Surovikin‘s and Saldo’s statements are likely attempts to set information conditions for a full Russian retreat across the Dnipro River, which would cede Kherson City and other significant territory in Kherson Oblast to advancing Ukrainian troops. Russian military leaders have evidently learned from previous informational and operational failures during the recent Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kharkiv Oblast and are therefore likely attempting to mitigate the informational and operational consequences of failing to defend against another successful Ukrainian advance.
Russian forces are also setting information conditions to conduct a false-flag attack on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). The Russian military may believe that breaching the dam could cover their retreat from the right bank of the Dnipro River and prevent or delay Ukrainian advances across the river.
Surovikin claimed on October 18 that he has received information that Kyiv intends to strike the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), which he alleged would cause destructive flooding in Kherson Oblast.
...
Russian authorities likely intend these warnings about a purported Ukrainian strike on the Kakhovka HPP to set information conditions for Russian forces to damage the dam and blame Ukraine for the subsequent damage and loss of life, all while using the resulting floods to cover their own retreat further south into Kherson Oblast. The Kremlin could attempt to leverage such a false-flag attack to overshadow the news of a third humiliating retreat for Russian forces, this time from western Kherson. Such an attack would also further the false Russian information operation portraying Ukraine as a terrorist state that deliberately targets civilians.
Russia continues to use the guise of civilian “evacuations” as a cover for the mass forced removal of civilians from Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.
Saldo’s announcement of a mass withdrawal from the west bank of the Dnipro River is likely intended in part to evacuate Russian occupation officials, collaborators, and other occupation organs in anticipation of imminent Ukrainian advances, but Russian officials are likely also using the façade of humanitarian necessity to deport large populations of Ukrainians to Russia, as ISW has previously reported.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s October 19 declaration of martial law readiness is largely legal theater meant to legitimize activities the Russian military needs to undertake or is already undertaking while creating a framework for future mobilization and domestic restrictions.
