>
| FPTP Projection: Labour majority government
Lab : 330 (+68)
Con : 112 (-206)
LDem : 79 (+67)
SNP : 53 (+18)
BRX : 51 (+51)
PC : 4 (=)
Grn : 2 (+1)
Ind : 1 (+1)
Changes with GE2017 | |
| Labour would become the largest party by a margin of 137 seats, allowing Jeremy Corbyn to lead a minority government as the Tories fell to third place in terms of vote share.
Brandon Lewis, the party chairman, Penny Mordaunt, the Defence Secretary, and Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, would be among 46 Tories to lose their seats to the Brexit Party, just one month after its launch, according to predictions based on the poll commissioned by Brexit Express.
Boris Johnson, Iain Duncan Smith and Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 committee, would be ousted by Labour, with the Tories retaining support from less than half of those who voted for them in 2017.
[...]
Andrew Hawkins, the chairman of ComRes, described the poll as a “disaster”, adding: “If the Conservative leadership contenders are not careful, there will be no party for them to lead.” >

ehr weniger.

| By doing this Theresa is trying to make it look like progress is happening in order to stop the hemorrhaging of voters from the Tory Party.
It don't look like it will work.

When will May learn, that is the exact worst threat to make. The hard Brexiteers want no deal and so will gamble. The hard Remainers want revoke, and so will gamble. Who is this threat suppose to threaten? She's effectively saying: keep opposing me and there's a chance you could get your number one outcome!
Analysis: ‘Zombie’ Parliament limps on with no Brexit deal in sight
| Parliament has not had a vote for more than a month and is now on its longest session since the English Civil War.
However, unlike the ‘Long Parliament’ of 1640-1660 MPs seemingly have little to discuss.
Over the past three weeks more than 16 hours of sitting time has gone unused, with parliamentarians consistently clocking off early.
...
SNP Commons leader Pete Wishart captured the mood perfectly at the start of the month when he told the government benches: “To call this a zombie government would be to show massive disrespect to the brain-eating living dead, and the purgatory that we will now endure is acquiring a semi-permanent nature.”

| Boris Johnson has said he will run for the Conservative Party leadership after Theresa May stands down.
Asked at a business event in Manchester if he would be a candidate, the former foreign secretary replied: "Of course I'm going to go for it."
Seine Arbeit sollte belohnt werden.

| Sir Graham Brady tells us that PM is expected to resign whether or not the [Withdrawal Agreement Bill] passes in June. A leadership election this summer is now a dead cert.
If PM’s deal passes then presumably she does remain until bill gets royal assent. But effectively the handover begins in June.
Sir Graham speaks in terms of a ‘timetable for a leadership contest’ whatever happens with the WAB. So either: 1) Theresa May loses the vote and goes immediately 2) Theresa May wins the vote and stays as effectively caretaker PM to complete bill’s passage (not necessarily easy)
Either way, the leadership contest won’t wait. Candidates already declaring (eg Boris today) and momentum now impossible to stop. This summer will be a beauty parade, whatever the technical date of PM’s departure.

Surprise!
| Jeremy Corbyn has said talks with the government to find a compromise over Brexit "have gone as far as they can".
The Labour leader said the six weeks of cross-party discussions could not carry on due to "the increasing weakness and instability" of the government.
