| Someone in a post the other day about brexit on Reddit was saying how soon enough every two years we're going to go through a renewal process to extend the transition period again and again and that eventually it will just become a funny tradition we do to stay in Europe and keep eurosceptics happy. > | |

Hm. Johnson/May, Trump, Turnbull, Zuma (waaaaat, der ist letzte Woche zurück getreten?! ), hier unten demnächst wohl wegen Schwangerschaftsurlaub Winston Peters...

Airbus may leave UK unless there is urgent clarity on Brexit trade | Guardian
Airbus [employer of about 15,000 people in the UK] has warned it would have to consider its position in the UK without imminent clarity over customs rules after Brexit.
The European aerospace manufacturer said it would soon have to decide whether to start stockpiling parts to avoid border delays, adding costs that could make its British operations uncompetitive.
France rejects Britain's plan for banks to access EU after Brexit | Reuters
France said that it was not taking a hard line in Brexit talks on Tuesday but that it saw little chance of securing a free trade deal for financial services that would provide the degree of access sought by Britain’s biggest taxpaying sector.
| r/uk:
The banks have given up waiting for Theresa May to make any realistic proposals or progress in the negotiations. After passporting was publicly rejected this weekend it looks like the contingency plans have been activated.
I've been looking for possible finance jobs in Germany for the last month or so and each time I've searched on stepstone (a national jobs board) it's come up with around 10 matches. I checked yesterday and there were 216.
| Well, it kinda makes sense. 12 months to go, we're at an exactly the same spot as we were 12 months ago - No clarity what the UK actually wants/wishes.
No sensible bank will wait around. I've also heard from friends that the majority of the UK positions on internal job boards have disappeared overnight, which clearly means, the ship has sailed and banks are on the move.

An outraged Theresa May rejects her own EU withdrawal plan >
| Yesterday the European Commission published the Draft Article 50 Withdrawal Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom. Note that this is publishing an “agreement”, not a proposal. It was not the EU’s idea of what they would like to see, but actually a summary of what the UK negotiators have agreed so far.
This has been completely missed or misrepresented by most of the press. From the Times (but it could have been any paper): “Mrs May dismissed EU proposals for the fallback option to prevent a hard border in Ireland as completely unacceptable”.
| The borders solution suggested in yesterday’s EU draft agreement is actually Theresa May’s suggestion, and it’s that which she is rejecting, not a some sort of nasty EU plot. | |
| I wrote back in December as she arrived back from Brussels proclaiming victory: "The truth is that no deal has been done, unless you mean the one to just kick the problem of the undoable deal down the road. The UK Prime Minister has promised the moon to the DUP, the stars to the EU and the sun to Ireland, and none are her gifts to give."
Well here we are “down the road” with the undoable deal as I described, and the PM says no British PM could ever sign such a deal. The mainstream press even seem surprised that the EU had the nerve to propose it. They didn’t, the UK Prime Minister did – you couldn’t write a farce like this.

European Commission - Fact Sheet
Questions & Answers: Publication of the draft Withdrawal Agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom
Brussels, 28 February 2018
I. Introduction
What have you published today?
[...] It will now be discussed by the Council (Article 50) and with the Brexit Steering Group of the European Parliament before being transmitted to the United Kingdom for negotiation. A final version of the Withdrawal Agreement should be agreed by the EU and the UK by October 2018 to allow for the timely ratification by the European Parliament, the Council (Article 50) and the UK, according to its own constitutional requirements.
