Trump and allies plot revenge, Justice Department control in a second term | WaPo
| Donald Trump and his allies have begun mapping out specific plans for using the federal government to punish critics and opponents should he win a second term, with the former president naming individuals he wants to investigate or prosecute and his associates drafting plans to potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office to allow him to deploy the military against civil demonstrations.

| What we're covering here
High-stakes testimony: Donald Trump is testifying under oath in the New York civil fraud trial against him and is being pressed about the values of his properties — and his role in their appraisals. In the first hour of testimony, the judge repeatedly told Trump to not give speeches in court and warned his attorney to control him or he may be removed from the witness stand. There are no cameras in court, but CNN reporters are providing the latest updates from inside.
The lawsuit: The $250 million lawsuit brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that Trump and his co-defendants committed repeated fraud in inflating assets on financial statements to get better terms on commercial real estate loans and insurance policies. The judge already ruled the former president is liable for fraud and he's considering how much the Trumps will have to pay in damages.
Why it matters: The case is civil, not criminal, but threatens Trump's business in New York. James is seeking to bar Trump from doing business in the state and to dissolve his companies. Trump’s testimony Monday will also serve as a precursor to the four criminal trials he faces next year as he campaigns to regain the presidency.
Ein paar meiner Highlights.
| Judge interrupts Trump's "irrelevant" answer to questions about Scotland golf course valuation | |
| “Irrelevant, irrelevant, answer the question," Engoron said speaking over Trump, one of the few times that's happened since returning from the break.
Trump also used the opportunity to boast about the course.
"I think it’s the greatest golf course ever built," Trump said. "It’s one of the greatest pieces of land I’ve ever seen."
| Engoron has repeatedly grown frustrated at Trump’s answers, cutting him off and striking on response from the record.
“We are here to hear him answer questions and most of the time he’s not,” Engoron said.
Trump shook his head with pursed lips. Kise urged the judge to listen to Trump’s response, saying that what he has to say gets to the heart of the case.
"The court needs to hear what he has to say about these statements," Kise said. "He’s describing to you about why there was no intent to mislead anyone with his answers. That’s what he’s doing."
“No, I’m not here to hear what he has to say. I’m here to hear him answer questions,” Engoron said in response, raising his voice and telling Trump’s lawyers to “sit down already.”
| The sniping between Judge Arthur Engoron and Donald Trump has been a feature of the first 30 or so minutes of testimony, with the judge getting impatient at various tangents from the former president.
"Mr. Kise, can you control your client?" Engoron said to Trump attorney Chris Kise.
Würde ich echt gerne live gucken.

Nicht nur Du...
| Before Mr. Trump’s testimony, a technical malfunction in the overflow courtroom added to the drama when the sound on the closed-circuit television would not turn on.
As Mr. Trump could be seen gingerly walking to the witness stand and raising his right hand, one man began to berate a courtroom technician.
“The president’s on the stand, and you can’t hear anything,” the technician said, holding a remote control.
“We’ve waited all day for this!” a man in jeans said, jumping to his feet and dashing toward the technician.
The technician said, “You try it,” as the man seized the remote control. The man pointed it at the screen and it went black. Groans emanated from the crowed in the overflow courtroom, who now could no longer even see the trial.
“Give me that back, give me that back!” the technician said, grabbing at the remote.
“Don’t yell at me,” the man retorted. “You’re the one who can’t do his job.”
Minutes later, another technician came into the courtroom and first fixed the audio, and then the video. By that time the angry man had stormed out, cursing at court staff.

Auch schön:
| And finally, the judge explains why he hasn’t been interrupting since the break: He is following Wallace’s lead, he says, and Wallace seems to be fine with Trump’s rambling. As we’ve noted, that rambling is helping the attorney general. | |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Things have gone downhill in court again. Trump is attacking the attorney general and the judge’s summary judgment, saying, “He called me a fraud and he didn’t know anything about me…It's a terrible thing you’ve done. You know nothing about me. You believe this political hack back there, and this is unfortunate." | |

Suche 1 accountability partner
| Speaker of the House Mike Johnson admitted that he and his son monitored each other’s porn intake in a resurfaced clip from 2022.
During a conversation on the “War on Technology” at Benton, Louisiana’s Cypress Baptist Church — unearthed by X user Receipt Maven last week — the Louisiana representative talked about how he installed “accountability software” called Covenant Eyes on his devices in order to abstain from internet porn and other unsavory websites.
“It scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, your laptop, what have you; we do all of it,” Johnson told the panel about the app.
“It sends a report to your accountability partner. My accountability partner right now is Jack, my son. He’s 17. So he and I get a report about all the things that are on our phones, all of our devices, once a week. If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice. I’m proud to tell ya, my son has got a clean slate.”
