| Donald Trump, unable to front a half billion dollars to pay off his recent bank fraud judgment, now effectively has liens placed on his massive, forested estate north of New York City, according to public records and several court clerks who spoke to The Daily Beast on Thursday.
Documents show that New York Attorney General Letitia James has started preparing to seize his family’s hallowed grounds at Seven Springs, the billionaire tycoon’s Bruce-Wayne-like mansion surrounded by 212 acres of dense woods and rolling hills.
James quietly filed judgments in Westchester County on March 6 against the former president, his eldest sons Don Jr. and Eric, and several of their companies—just as they unsuccessfully tried to stall the case.
The Trumps and some of their top executives lost a three-month bank fraud trial in New York City, with Justice Arthur F. Engoron concluding they routinely lied about the tycoon’s wealth and ordering them to pay $464 million.

Wie ist denn die Begründung dafür?
| |
Kein Grund.
| Although the appeals court gave no reasoning for its decision, Adam Pollock, an attorney who formerly served as assistant attorney general in New York, said the decision could indicate that it might consider permanently reducing the judgment against Trump on appeal.
“It’s extraordinary because the law is clear that you have to post a bond in the full amount, and it additionally suggests that there may be concern that the underlying judgment is itself excessive,” said Pollock.

| Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito are clearly eager to revive the Comstock Act as a nationwide ban on medication abortion—and maybe procedural abortion, too. That would subject abortion providers in all 50 states to prosecution and imprisonment. No congressional action needed.
Conservative groups like Heritage are openly pressing Donald Trump to impose a nationwide abortion ban on Day One by invoking the Comstock Act. That would end legal abortion throughout the country, including blue states. Thomas and Alito are evidently ready to uphold such a move.

| I think the Supreme Court will side with the FDA and reject the challenge to mifepristone on standing grounds, probably 8–1, with Alito dissenting. But Thomas, possibly joined by Alito, will say that the Comstock Act makes it a federal crime to mail or transport abortion pills.
Gorsuch may write separately to express his contempt for nationwide remedies—like universal injunctions, stays, and "vacaturs"—saying they exceed federal courts' constitutional authority. Unsure if anyone will join him, but Barrett and even Jackson might agree.
Note that Judge Kacsmaryk has already allowed red states to intervene as plaintiffs with a separate and legitimate basis for standing. If SCOTUS reverses Kacsmaryk in this case, he might come back with a new nationwide ban on mifepristone a few months later. It isn't over.

| Regular bibles typically run a purchaser between $20 or so and $50 or so, but Trump’s “God Bless the USA” bibles are a bit pricer. They’re selling for $59.99, and come with several additions that make the entire endeavor all the more dystopian. As a specifically American-themed bible, Trump’s expensive, leather-bound version comes with several states-specific inclusions, including a copy of the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and what bible would be complete with out the Pledge of Allegiance?
These add-ons, which can be found for free on the internet, are apparently enough to excuse the bible’s extra cost. They’re also enough to make it somehow both excessively patriotic, and utterly un-American. Our constitution — you know, that thing shoved in at the end of this depraved purchase — emphasizes the separation of church and state in its very first amendment, yet this horrific book blatantly combines the two, and considers itself more American for it.
