Meanwhile in England:

| The UK authorities may have adopted a light-touch, flexible system for the next six months. Europe, however, has been rigid from Day One of Brexit. | | | Children in Holland are raised on stories of Operation Manna, the first major humanitarian airdrop in history. In 1945, parts of occupied Holland were starving in what is still called the 'Hongerwinter' ('Hunger Winter').
So the RAF filled Lancasters with food and flew dangerously low in broad daylight over enemy territory to drop food on an emaciated Holland. I have seen Dutch witnesses in tears recalling how this 'manna from Heaven' saved their lives.
You won't hear them cracking 'Welcome to the Brexit' jokes. Perhaps they could have a quiet word with merry Martijn.

British business travellers face a bewildering return to the EU >
| The agreement is “fiendishly complicated” ... There’s no uniformity among the EU 27. It’s not just that the UK has left the single market — for the UK business traveller looking at the entry rules, there is no longer a single market.
If you provide a service as part of your unpaid work, for example, Denmark, Cyprus and Croatia insist you apply for a work permit and satisfy an “economic needs test”, which means the authorities will assess the effect of your trip on local providers. ... this will probably mean advertising first to see if anyone local can do what you’re planning to do. ... For architects and urban planners, for example, Finland demands “special knowledge relevant to the service being supplied” ...
Nicolas Rollason, a lawyer at Kingsley Napley, says companies will probably have to consult local lawyers in each country about what the entry requirements are. ... British travellers will probably have to get used to carrying proof of hotel bookings, evidence they can support themselves, and return tickets. This has long been standard practice for travellers coming into the EU from outside. “It’s ‘welcome to everyone else’s world’ when it comes to travelling,” he says.
Some UK business travellers may say, well, who needs to travel? We’ve been working on Zoom for months now; we can simply carry on. It is not that simple. As Barnard points out, there is a “chilling effect”. If your EU competitors can travel freely, why should companies bother with a UK provider? There are plenty of EU suppliers happy to do the work.
| | | There’s one group that will do well out of this: UK-based EU passport holders, who will be able to advertise themselves, both to British employers and to EU service buyers, as being able to travel unhindered around the bloc. Best-placed of all will be Irish passport holders, who can not only travel in the EU, but live and work freely in the UK too. Cecil Rhodes, the British mining magnate and colonialist, once described being English as “the greatest prize in the lottery of life”. Post-Brexit, it’s the Irish who hold the winning ticket. | |
Leave EU website suspended after EU registry blocks move to Ireland >
| Leave EU's website has been suspended after the EU registry behind the domain address blocked a move from the Brexiteers to switch its registration to Ireland to avoid losing the .eu suffix.
The group, founded by Brexiteer Arron Banks and supported by former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage, attempted to move the registration from the UK to Waterford in Ireland on New Year's Eve after a rule stated that addresses can only be used by companies if they are based in the EU.

| But Andy Wigmore, the communications director for the campaign group, told the Guardian:
“We’ll be back up soon – our lawyers will be taking action against those (and they know who they are) who have broken those delicious EU laws they love so much.”
[...]
“And any more nonsense from Brussels lovers [...] and we may decide to put the full weight of Leave.EU behind the IREXIT campaign.”
