Was wurde da gefeiert?

Da kann man schon mal Freedom Day machen.

| PM says he doesn't want to see vaccine certificates used in pubs.
But he says they'll be used in "closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings".
Which sounds quite like a pub to me 🤷♀️

Kaliningrad
Was geht in Dänemark?

Wissen Sie was die mir sagt?
"Was heißt da wir?"

https://twitter.com/DavidHenigUK/status/1417807827704418304
| The UK government's Northern Ireland statement in short - rewrite history as to how we got here, whinge about the impact with a handful of select figures, suggest preposterous and shallow honesty scheme to replace almost the entire protocol, threaten Article 16 later.
It is another fundamentally unserious document from the UK government with regard to Northern Ireland, taking the debate backwards and lowering trust. Obviously the proposals would be unacceptable to anyone, which leads to what happens in September. Conflict or climbdown?
...
And here's the thing - yes there are GB-NI issues to address. Yes the unionists have a case. But this UK government approach is People's Front of Judea 2 days to dismantle the entire apparatus fantasy, not at all the engagement needed to make real change.
General response all round - nothing of interest whatsoever in the UK's NI paper, including any realistic proposals. Waste of time at best, making things worse possibly. We go again in September, and forever until the UK government aligns with trade and regulatory realities.
Anyway, remember the UK government pressures on the Northern Ireland protocol. Trade and political relations with the EU and US versus relations with unionists and backbenchers. The latter are worth political statements, but the former will win any serious consideration. | | | Part of a substantial thread on UK government Northern Ireland proposals from probably the UK's leading trade and borders specialist - not all responses are grounded in quite such knowledge (NB my own tend to focus more on the politics of trade, regulation and negotiation)
https://twitter.com/AnnaJerzewska/status/1417847266606522370
| So to summarise.
1. This is not a fully worked-out proposal.
2. What is there would require a lot of work. Even IF the EU was to go for it tomorrow it would be months/years
3. Many parts of this proposal have already (repeatedly) been rejected by the EU. This is bound to raise some eyebrows.
Or maybe the EU is just as tired of discussing the NI Protocol as I am and will just give up and give in?
| |
https://twitter.com/jonworth/status/1417825435317063686
| This "command document" is not UK Government accepting what it did wrong agreeing the NI Protocol, and thoughtfully proposing solutions
It is the UK Government *disowning* what it did, and assuming the EU is going to be fine redoing it, for the UK's sake
Not a chance that flies | |
https://twitter.com/DavidHenigUK/status/1417916866702585856
| The vital public service of pointing out the malevolent cynicism of a UK government largely knowing what they were signing, that no other UK government would, to win an election, expecting later reneging, and which now seeks to rewrite that history because the last part failed.
The level of anger in the EU and in large parts of Belfast about UK government action over the protocol is strongly connected with the perception that having failed with their scheme of sign then renege treaty they are prepared to risk peace and blame others for that failure.
UK government actions on the Northern Ireland protocol are not being judged by the EU and US on trade and regulations, where views differ and there is no right answer, but on the belief it is behaving disgracefully. That needs to be remembered.
