Brexit is Britain’s gift to the world >
| Much like Davy, the UK is now experimenting on itself for the benefit of humanity. Advanced societies rarely do anything so reckless, which is why the Brexit experiment is so valuable. In between self-poisonings, Brexit keeps producing discoveries that surprise both Leavers and Remainers. Here are some early lessons for other countries: [...]
Almost every system is more complex than it looks. Most people can’t describe the workings of a toilet, writes Steven Sloman, cognitive scientist at Brown University. The EU is even more complicated, and so leaving it has countless unforeseen ramifications. Most Britons had no idea last year that voting Leave could mean closing the Irish border, or giving ministers dictatorial powers to rewrite law. [...]
You have to choose who to surrender your sovereignty to. Brexiters are right to say that the EU has usurped some of British sovereignty. But as John Major, former British prime minister, remarks, in a connected world the only fully sovereign state is North Korea. All other countries are forever trading away bits of sovereignty. [...]
May humiliated on world stage; Brexit is dissolving Britain's status in the world. >
| For those who care to look, the signs are everywhere. Brexit is dissolving Britain's status in the world. The effects are not subtle. They are as demonstrable and obvious as a lack of leaves in winter. The only reason they are not more widely discussed is because the UK press is so fully behind the project.
The BBC news reports on Theresa May's speech to the United Nation yesterday did her the considerable service of staying close on the lecturn and only occasionally cutting away to the face of Priti Patel and Boris Johnson in the auditorium. If they had panned out, we would have seen that the hall was largely empty. No-one had bothered to come. [...]
This is the natural reaction to a country which seems to be actively trying to make itself irrelevant.
[...]
And as Britain turns to Canada and other nations to try to shore up its trade networks, its negotiators face a similar problem: everyone knows they are desperate for a deal.
"And this Thursday, Canada will gain precisely what the UK is now on course to lose: free trade with the European Union."

The EU could easily veto everything Theresa May said today | British GQ >
| Theresa May managed to say almost nothing of substance in her speech in Florence, bar an announcement that she wants a two-year transition/implementation period. The speech in Italy, planned under a bizarre level of secrecy and unavoidable hype, won’t actually shift the dial of possible outcomes and barely did more than kick the hard problems down the road by seeking a two-year extension.
Nobody from the EU side of the negotiation attended, and the offer to them was more of a pleading request that we be allowed more time to get our act together. The parameters for a deal looking increasingly narrow. The response of the team behind Brexit? Their champion Boris Johnson is doing everything he can to engineer a situation in which he is either sacked or has the latitude to resign. Having broken everything, the Brexiters are running away.

Moody's downgrades UK's rating to Aa2, changes outlook to stable
| Fiscal pressures will be exacerbated by the erosion of the UK's medium-term economic strength that is likely to result from the manner of its departure from the European Union (EU) | |
| Moody's is no longer confident that the UK government will be able to secure a replacement free trade agreement with the EU which substantially mitigates the negative economic impact of Brexit. | |

Boris Johnsons Bedingungen:
| In his interview with the Sun, Mr Johnson called for four conditions for Brexit, which were then described by the paper as his "four red lines":
-Transition period must be a maximum of two years
-UK must refuse to accept new EU rules during that period
-No payments for access to the single market after the end of the transition period
-UK must not agree to shadow EU rules to gain access to the single market

Brexitminister David Davis 'will retire and leave Brexit transition to Boris Johnson'
| David Davis plans to retire in 2019 and leave Boris Johnson to steer the UK through the transitional period, The Telegraph can reveal.
The Brexit secretary told friends that Michel Barnier, the EU's chief negotiator, "needs this to work more than I do" because he plans to step aside in June 2019 whereas Mr Barnier will still be in post.

Gentlemen. You can't fight in here. This is the War Room!

Hab mittlerweile eine offizielle Seite gefunden:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/status-of-eu-nationals-in-the-uk-what-you-need-to-know
