It marked an unusual criticism by a US president of the domestic policy decisions of one of its closest allies.
“I wasn’t the only one that thought it was a mistake,” Biden said. “I think that the idea of cutting taxes on the super-wealthy at a time when … I disagree with the policy, but that’s up to Great Britain.” He criticised a lack of “sound policy” in other countries in regard to economic growth.

Mal eine generelle Frage:
Kwarteng hat doch im Endeffekt nur das umgesetzt, was Truss angekündigt hat, oder kamen zu seinem Kurs irgendwelche Alleingänge hinzu, die ihn belastet haben?
Ich frage nur aus dem Grund, weil mir insgesamt nicht ganz klar ist, wie viel Luft man sich politisch damit verschafft, seinen eigenen Minister nach kurzer Zeit wieder abzusägen.
Offensichtlich ja nicht viel, wenn man mittlerweile mit einem Salatkopf konkurriert. Aber selbst bei einer stärkeren und souveräneren Premierministerin ist mir nicht klar, wie man sich in einer solchen Situation durch eine Personalrochade wirklich viel Platz schaffen soll, ohne sich selbst nachhaltig zu beschädigen.
Oder denkt bei Truss niemand mehr in dieser zeitlichen Dimension?

Am Freitag hatte Premierministerin Liz Truss Finanzminister Kwasi Kwarteng entlassen und Hunt zu seinem Nachfolger ernannt. Seit Kwarteng Ende September Details zu Steuerplänen bekannt gegeben hatte, die über Schulden finanziert werden sollten, war es zu Turbulenzen an den Finanzmärkten gekommen, da es Zweifel an der Finanzierbarkeit gab. Die britische Notenbank musste mit Anleihenkäufen eingreifen. Steigende Zinsen für Immobilienkredite verschärften für viele Hausbesitzer die Krise der Lebenshaltungskosten.
Am Sonntag traf Truss sich mit Hunt auf ihrem Landsitz, um den neuen Haushaltsplan auszuarbeiten. Der Finanzminister kam am Abend zudem mit Zentralbankchef Andrew Bailey und dem Chef der Finanzbehörde DMO zusammen, um über das Vorhaben zu beraten. | |

Das Problem ist ja, dass die grundsätzlich keine kompetente/ehrliche/... Person wählen, sondern ausschließlich den größten Deppen, die ihnen ein "we make Britain great again, red, white and blue Brexit, yada yada" verspricht.
Und wenn sich dann hinterher wieder mal herausstellt, dass all die Fantasie-Wahlversprechen mit der Realität kollidieren, gibt es wieder surprised Pikachu faces.

| | A Labour motion that would have forced a vote on a bill to ban fracking has been defeated in the Commons.
230 MPs voted in favour of the motion, while 326 were against it, a government majority of 96.
There are suggestions that the chief whip Wendy Morton has resigned, according to Sky's political editor Beth Rigby.
Ahead of the Commons showdown, many Conservative MPs expressed disquiet about Ms Truss's plan to return to fracking where there is "local consent".
Chris Skidmore, the MP and governmental net-zero tsar, said he would not be voting with the government and was "prepared to face the consequences of my decision".
A moratorium on fracking was imposed in 2019 after a series of tremors, and the Tory manifesto that year said they would not support it "unless the science shows categorically that it can be done safely".

Labour used an opposition day debate on Wednesday to put forward a motion which, if passed, would guarantee time in the Commons for a bill to ban the controversial gas extraction technique for good.
