Selbst auf dem größeren Bild schwer einzuschätzen. Die hatten den Damm doch stark vermint, möglich das davon was in ner Kaskade hochgegangen ist und den oberen Bereich weggeflext hat. Der Bereich mit den Fluttoren sieht auf dem Foto an sich noch intakt aus, da sich da allerdings doch einiges an Schaum bildet.....schwer zu sagen ob bzw. wie stark da noch was in den unteren Damsegmenten beschädigt wurde.
Alles in allem hart uncool.

| | We shouldn't dismiss Ukraine's chances of achieving further gains over the winter. Russia's force is increasingly composed of involuntary soldiers (mobilized, stop-loss, etc.). Bad weather presents challenges but also opportunities for UA units with better discipline and morale.
Ukraine has demonstrated a greater ability to strike targets behind Russia's lines with SOF, partisans, UAVs, and precision fires than Russia. That means Ukraine can continue to raise costs for Russian forces and their occupation efforts even if the front is relatively static.
Plus Ukraine has momentum and clear strategic objectives, while Russian soldiers are increasingly questioning their leadership. I suspect Ukraine will take more territory over the winter.

There are so many historical precedents for wars continuing through winter: Korea, WW2 in Europe, etc. Winter has been occurring in Ukraine for a long time. They know how to deal with it.
And it is worth noting that winter absolutely is NOT the time to force negotiations on Ukraine. It is however time to surge weapons, munitions and training for Ukrainian Armed Forces.
It is a good time also to be doing detailed planning for the 2023 military campaign, and for the reconstruction of Ukraine post victory.
There is nothing to fear and everything to gain from Ukraine’s ultimate victory. It will provide an enormous boost for democracies and a huge kick in the teeth for the repulsive, backward ideologies of Xi, Putin and their thuggish mates. | |

First: Motivation.
Russian army has no business in Ukraine. No number of draftees will solve this problem. In fact, it will only make things worse, because every next batch is less motivated that the previous one. Russia is simply running out of idiots. The Kremlin has just started severe ideologization and militarization of Russian education to get the young committed to fight. Most probably, it is too late. Russian young are skeptical about this war, and will be increasingly opposed to it.
Second: Russian army is too hierarchical and corrupt.
Replacing one butcher with another in military command will change nothing. Russian military is built on despise of soldiers’ lives and suppression of their initiative because Putin’s state is founded on the same principles. It will take changing the state to repair the army.
Third: Russia faces a coalition with practically unlimited resources.
Ukraine will never stop fighting because Putin frames it as a genocidal war. The question is whether Ukraine will have resources for that. This is Putin’s only hope at this point. Nuclear, energy, or grain blackmail, creating divisions in Europe and in the US – all of this is meant to break the coalition.
Those who say that Putin cannot be defeated, or that he should be offered a chunk of sovereign Ukraine as an off-ramp, or that he should be kept in power to avert the worst – these people are the only ones who can help him snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Putin is not invincible. He will be soundly defeated, and rather soon. If only some useful idiots don’t step in to save him.

Some people seems confused about the Ukrainian victory in Kherson.
It is important to understand the strategy and the goals.
The goal was to liberate the area, not to kill as many Russians as possible or to destroy as much infrastructure as possible.
Statement regarding the first hits on the Antonivsky Bridge: "The strike didn't aim to destroy the bridge, but to make it impossible for the Russian military to use it, according to Natalya Humenyuk, the spokesperson of the Operational Command South."
The liberation of Kherson is the result of 3 months of attrition warfare. Continued attacks on the Russian ground lines of communications was at the end too much for Russia. To succeed this this, you also need them to spend ammo and fuel. They spend ammo and fuel during combat.
This has not been smooth, Ukraine have had high losses in Kherson and it has been a very difficult area to advance in. The terrain is not optimal and the RuAF in Kherson had actually done a good job digging in.
This is some RU positions I have mapped about a week ago.
Green = Vehicle revetment
Black = Concrete covered vehicle revetment
Red = RU Mil vehicles
Yellow = Unidentified position
Orange = Trench
This is far from complete, I skipped about 200 vehicle revetment add a lot of trenches around Chornobaivka.
It almost seems like some people are disappointed this did not end with a huge Hollywood style battle. But I think the Russian retreat was the optimal solution.
Taking all those entrenched lines meter for meter with ground combat would have been extremely costly for both sides. Ukraine would have lost soldiers lives, equipment, ammo and civilian lives.
Some think Ukraine just let the Russians leave. This is wrong. The barges have been hammers with GMLRS and artillery for the last 3 months.

Ukraine can now relocate a lot the offensive equipment to other areas where it is needed. Especially the artillery will do a huge difference in the east. They will of course still have to leave a blocking force, but it can be a lot smaller than what they needed for an offensive.
I don't see any reason for the AFU to try to cross the Dinpro at this point. If they would do that, they would be in the same positions as the Russians just were on the right bank of Dinpro. Why cross the river if you can just go around it?
The only time I think it would make sense to try to cross the river, is if the AFU are advancing on Melitopol.
There is also a political aspect to the liberation of Kherson. Ukraine stated their goal was to liberate the south. They have now showed the west they are are capable of achieving their goals.
This is very important to ensure continued support from the west during the winter.
Ukraine have had 3 HUGE victories since September 1st, during the same time, the Russians captured Pisky.
The total liberated area since September 1 should end up around 17000 km2 with the area west of the Dnipro.
Every win like this is important for the increased morale among the UA forces, and to decrease the morale among the Russian forces. They all must wonder where the huge UA offensive force will go next. Will it come to their area?
It also have a huge impact on Russian public opinion, they are not happy on the RU telegrams today. The amount of vatnik tears harvested today would be enough to energize an entire continent for years.

I did forget to mention, like I have previously stated, I never thought a ground assoil on Kherson city was the intentions of the AFU. It would have been extremely costly in Ukrainian lives. And it would have destroyed the city.
I do not think the city is safe in anyway, I believe the Russians will make it their life goal to level it to the ground from the left bank of the Dnipro. I hope the Ukrainian counter battery is effective enough to stop this.

Angesichts dessen stellt sich die Frage, weshalb Deutschland nicht einfach eigenmächtig handelt und den Vertrag mit der Schweiz bricht. Kaum ein westlicher Staat ausserhalb der Schweiz dürfte die deutsche Regierung im konkreten Fall dafür kritisieren. Geschweige denn selbst Konsequenzen ziehen.
In Bern hegt man deshalb schon länger einen Verdacht: Der Knatsch mit der Schweiz über die Gepard-Munition sei vor allem ein Ablenkungsmanöver Deutschlands, um den Blick weg von den innerdeutschen Kontroversen über den Umfang und die Geschwindigkeit von Waffenlieferungen abzulenken. | |

Dazu muss halt erstmal das Verständnis dafür geschaffen werden, dass die Symbole mehr als Konkretkrassgeil und Badass sind. Wer sich nie aktiv mit dem Hintergrund zum Dritten Reich beschäftigt hat bzw sich auf youtube "gebildet" hat, ist sich des Historischen Ballastes nicht bewusst und für den ist AH und die SS nur ein anderer Putin, der den Russen damals eingeheizt hat. Dazu wurden die UAF ja von den andern als Nazis betitelt, da ist das nur ein Beissreflex
Da muss man mit Politik noch nicht mal anfangen, um diverse (suboptimale) Gründe für die Embleme zu finden.

Kein Land hat die Nazischeiße so aufgearbeitet wie Deutschland und reagiert dermaßen allergisch auf irgendwelche Symbole, außer man kann es politisch ausschlachten. Ob da wirklich Naziideologie dahintersteckt wage ich fast zu bezweifeln, das ist doch vermutlich nur ein unreflektiertes "Ich bin geil und reiß euch den Arsch auf"

Jo da bin ich d'accord.
Ich denke nicht dass in der ukrainischen Regierung irgendjemand glaubt dass das mit EU oder gar NATO Beitritt was wird wenn man TDF Regimenter o.ä. mit Dirlewanger-Symbolen hat. Die haben das nicht genug unter Kontrolle, da stimm ich zu. Das geht nicht, in ihrem eigenen Sinne. Aber da ist halt Krieg...
