| Why the destruction of a battalion of mobilized in Makeevka is not a one-time mistake and it cannot be corrected in the current conditions. This means that such attacks will be repeated. Explaining in a short thread ⬇️
Case in point: The Russian mobilized men stopped compactly in the building of a vocational school in Makeevka. They took ammunition and equipment with them. The AFU found out about this and destroyed the battalion with a volley of HIMARS.
"Military correspondents" are howling in different voices about what a terrible mistake the commanders had made. But it's more complicated than that!
The suggestion to assign soldiers to different points of temporary deployment (houses or basements) sounds sensible. Let's say 10 people sleep in one basement. If they get hit, there will be losses, but not critical ones. But in reality, when it comes to a large number of soldiers, this is almost impossible.
Think about it. The vocational school had a battalion of, let's say, 600 people. That is, you would need at least 60 basements to accommodate everyone relatively safely! In a big city like Makiivka you can find them, yes.
But now let's think about how such a battalion would function.
The simplest is food. Usually "in the field" food is prepared by the battalion field kitchen. It is then either handed out on the spot, or carried in the so-called TVNs - large flasks - immediately to the company. I have worn these a few times myself.
Now imagine that with that TVN you have to go around several basements. To be exact, 10 - and give out everything everywhere else. And we are not talking about the front line, where this is expected, but about the rear.
You say you can solve it. Well, probably yes, but it will add complexity.
Let's move on.
The battalion wasn't created to be spread around in basements, but to be commanded to fight or do something else useful in the war. In order to do that you have to lead it. If we go back to the scheme of 10 men per basement, that means a platoon leader has 3 basements, a company leader has 9-10.
If you think that the discipline of 10 men sitting in the basement is cool and that they will be able to get into formation, hear the alarm or act clearly in a critical situation, then you do not understand the reality of the Russian army very well.
Nothing will be done without an officer's shout-out. Perhaps veterans who have been fighting for a long time do better. But let me remind you - we are talking about the mobilized. Inexperienced, unskilled and unmotivated. Just to collect them in the basements in turn you will have to spend a lot of time.
The same goes for everything else. Gathering soldiers to distribute weapons or BC, even just to make an announcement becomes a difficult task. This issue could have been solved with walkie-talkies. But... you know, this is very bad in the Russian army.
You may ask, why the hell do we have to assemble everyone somewhere and somehow?
Because army discipline, order and morale are built on two bases: uniformity and an awareness of quantity. If the soldiers are not gathered in one heap from time to time, they will forget that there are many of them and that they are a force.
The discipline would be gone, too. Leave a soldier isolated somewhere for a while and he might even wonder if his army is losing the war. In general, the army needs group activities like air - this proves their existence in all armed forces of the world.
Well, I'd like to ask you a follow-up question. If 600 soldiers need 60 basements, how many are needed for 60,000 soldiers? That's right, 6,000 basements. I'm not sure if there are that many suitable in Makiivka. But there are plenty of mobilized there and in the area. Tens of thousands.
In total, there are now from 150 to 200 thousand mobilized at the front. I think at least half (75-100 thousand) of them are in the rear, and a lot of them are in Donetsk and its environs, simply because the logistics are easier there. And now imagine that you have to place 20,000 people around the city.
So you're going to take them and cram them into 2,000 basements all over the city. Mobilized. With no discipline, no experience, and no desire to fight. What do you get? Some will run away, others will steal, and everyone will get drunk out of his mind. 20,000 soldiers will disappear!
You see where I'm going with this, don't you? Whoever placed the mobilized in one place was probably not too smart. If he'd been smart he'd have got out of the war. But he was obviously doing it out of desperation. Otherwise it would have been impossible to control them. And I think there are not many places (those basements).
Do not forget the fact that the mobilized often need to be literally guarded. They will run away at a moment's notice. Many experts and generals say that the new manpower (mobilized) is an advantage of the Russian army. So in order to realize this advantage, it is necessary to concentrate it.
It is clear that they should be concentrated not in one school or vocational school, but at the front. But you still have to take them there - all these battalions. Not by scattering them in basements, not by scattering them in the middle of nowhere without discipline. Hence such decisions as placing a battalion in one place.
By the way, if anyone thinks this is nonsense, here is a photo of a standard company tent (USB-56). One of these houses 100 people. The Russian Army does not have any other tents for the SME. How many HIMARS hits do you think it would take to destroy an entire company?
Maybe you think I'm making excuses for the commanders who housed the battalion in one vocational school building. No, I am trying to explain that this decision was bad, but unavoidable in the present circumstances. That is why this mistake will be repeated.
How to fix it?
It's very simple: It is necessary to load all the mobilized in companies and battalions onto KAMAZs and URALs. And then take them from the occupied territory of Ukraine to Russia. Other soldiers of Putin's army should be taken along with them. That's a start. This is the only way to keep them alive as much as possible.
As long as there are HIMARS, as long as the AFU fire control zone is more than 70 kilometers from the front line, no matter how you place soldiers, equipment or ammunition, they will be destroyed. It's like looking for the right way to run at a machine gun in an open field. Whether you loop or run straight ahead, you will all die.
The Russian army has lost the war and is forced to make decisions in a knowingly disadvantageous situation, which it has no power to reverse. Putin does not care about people's lives, so the mobilized will die more and more often.
I've said it before. Where before a shell used to kill 3 people, now it will kill 30 people. This is the main consequence of the influx of manpower in the form of the mobilized. Only death awaits them at the front. Remember this.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guided_MLRS
Hier sieht man ganz gut was:
